Red Lake, Minnesota —

From the Kitamaat Village, British Columbia to the Red Lake Nation, Minnesota: Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce and Darren “Young D” Metz as Snotty Nose Rez Kids Prepare for Tour Stops in Major U.S. Cities

With a base in Vancouver, Snotty Nose Rez Kids took to the sky to land at a Regional Airport in the small rural city of Bemidji, Minnesota for a special one-off performance at a cannabis dispensary a half an hour north in the town of Red Lake, a rural Reservation community that is home to the Red Lake Band of Ojibwe, which happens to be where I am from and where I live.

As an artist connected to the Independent/Underground, and Indigenous Hip-Hop scenes, my excitement was through the roof when I heard that Snotty Nose Rez Kids were coming to town. I had been a fan since their first drop. Snotty Nose Rez Kids dropped their self-titled debut release independently in 2017. The duo put out a second release that same year. “The Average Savage” was met with rave reviews and included a JUNO Award nomination for Indigenous Album of the Year
and boosted the duo’s popularity throughout Indian Country. Come 2019, Snotty Nose Rez Kids released their third album titled “TRAPLINE” through the Toronto based Independent Record Label Distort Entertainment which had a distribution deal with Fontana North, a very well-know distro label, thus allowing the release to have a much broader reach than previous albums. “TRAPLINE” featured the song “Boujee Native” which became an underground hit, definitely propelling the duo into their current stardom.

NATVECARE DISPENSARY:

The Red Lake Nation originally launched NativeCare as a medical cannabis dispensary in 2021. The Red Lake Band became the first recreational cannabis dispensary in the State of Minnesota on August 1st, 2023. To celebrate the one-year anniversary in 2024, NativeCare hosted a variety of activities and performances by local DJ legends RezDawg, DJ St. Joel of the Freshwater DeeJays, Hip-Hop MC Thomas-X, and a celebrity guest appearance and performance by Nathan “Doggface” Apodaca of TikTok fame.

NativeCare took it a big step up to celebrate year two, contracting DJ RezDawg to coordinate the event.  This year the bill included returning performers DJ St. Joel, MC Thomas-X and adding popular Indigenous rapper Tall Paul from Minneapolis to the bill. Snotty Nose Rez Kids would close out the celebration, bringing their super hype performance the stage.

Red Lake, Minnesota would be the first States-side performance for SNRK prior to a busy schedule which includes studio time in Los Angeles and a 28-day tour as direct support for Minnesota MC Prof which takes them into November, before taking a short break before hitting the road across Canada with Toronto based punk band PUP.
